Who Is The Proponent?
Boulder Steel Limited (BGD) is the GSPP proponent. BGD is an Australian publicity listed company, which is currently working to secure project partnership arrangements to progress the $4 billion Gladstone Steel Plant Project towards development and operation.
What Is The Gladstone Steel Project?
The Gladstone Steel Plant Project is a proposed steel plant for the Aldoga Precinct of the State Development Area located west of Gladstone
The Gladstone Steel Plant will use blast furnace/basic oxygen furnace technology to produce high quality steel slabs and billets for exports to Asian markets
What Will Be Produced?
2.5 Million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) slabs and billets will be produced in Stage 1, increasing to 5 Mtpa in Stage 2.
Slag produced in the process will be sold locally to the construction and road building industries. Waste gases and thermal energy from the process will be sent to a cogeneration power station for conversion to 'green' power. Investigations are continuing into the feasibility of establishing a co-gen power station adjacent to the Gladstone Steel Plant site.
